Denver & Rio Grande Western RR

Class 2 Cabooses - 17' carbody, 8 wheel

Our Quick Pic Book series shows the subjects in extensive black & white photographs which have often been digitally edited to best exhibit the details.

This book shows the cars inside & out and the major construction variations in the carbody corner which was quarter round on some and squared off on other cars. Constructed in 1885, this class of cabooses is the most popular of classes
in terms of numbers that were operated by roads other than the D&RG/D&RGW.
This car has a 17' long body and originally had 3 windows on each side but during subsequent rebuildings, the center windows on both sides were covered over
and the end window where the stove was also was covered over. This gives
the cars a different look on each side. The other Colorado Railroads which
operated cabooses of this design were the Rio Grande Southern and the
Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad. Eventually the Nevada-California-Oregon thus SPng ended up with at least one as well so fans of all those roads need this book too.

Here is a brief history about the cars.
