Class 3 Cabooses
(peaked roof, 30' long)

Our Quick Pic Book series shows the subjects in extensive black & white photographs which have often been digitally edited to best exhibit the details.

This volume shows all the details on these cars including the trucks & underframe
and due to ongoing question about measurements, in many photos a ruler is present.
This class of 6 cars was built after the popularity of the Class 2 cabooses with
the train crews. The caboose on the narrow guage up until the mid 20th century
was assigned to an individual conductor and was considered his personal office
and he had the shop crews make modifications to meet his needs often.

These cars combined the extra carbody and storage space with room for more crewmembers which was often necessary when handbrakes were added to help the air brakes crossing the mountains. They also provided extra shelter for the large crews that often accompanied the Rotaries and snow clearing trains. The one
downside to this class was the platform was only 18" wide and by the time you encroach grabs and ladders and steps into that space, it made for a cramped area.

This book has 50 pages with 86 B&W photos
This book is spiral bound so it lays flat and has heavy duty,

8 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" wide.
